PR 2024/25 Harvest: Frosts Compromise Corn Productivity
Second corn harvest advances to 2%, but losses are recorded in silage areas
Brazil achieved the highest value in history with coffee shipments in the 12 months of the 2024/25 crop year: shipments abroad generated US$14,728 billion, a 49,5% increase compared to the US$9,849 billion of the previous record, achieved between July 2023 and the end of June 2024. According to the monthly statistical report of the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé), even with a volume 3,9% lower than that recorded in the 2023/24 crop year, the export of 45,589 million 60 kg bags – equivalent to 152.938 containers – of all types of coffee, to 115 countries, was the third best performance in history.
"Prices, especially in the second half of 2024, were significantly driven by lower production potential among the world's leading producers, a fact that has been observed for practically the last five years, when extreme weather conditions affected coffee plantations in Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia, and Indonesia. This led to a significant increase in the value of coffee and boosted the record foreign exchange revenue from our exports," analyzes Cecafé president Márcio Ferreira.
The president of Cecafé highlights the performance achieved in exports, especially amid a turbulent geopolitical scenario, new regulations on the global coffee trade, and major challenges experienced in logistics, especially at the country's ports.
"The third milestone in the history of Brazilian coffee exports is significant, as it was achieved in the face of geopolitical conflicts, which create even more challenges in commercial logistics worldwide, and a scenario of outdated infrastructure in Brazilian ports, which generate successive delays and changes in scale, resulting in non-consolidation of shipments and huge losses to Brazilian exporters due to unexpected demurrage and extra storage fees," he points out.
"Furthermore," Ferreira adds, "we have seen the arrival of socio-environmental regulations in global trade, particularly in Europe, where we exported over 23 million bags, or more than half of the total, which highlights the sustainable nature of Brazilian coffee."
The 2024/25 crop year results were achieved with the closing figures for June of this year, when the country exported 2,606 million bags and obtained foreign exchange revenue of US$1,030 billion. This performance also increased Brazilian coffee shipments to 19,411 million bags in the first half of 2025, generating US$7,519 billion in foreign exchange for Brazil.
The United States led the ranking of Brazil's main coffee trading partners in the 2024/25 harvest, purchasing 7,468 million bags. This volume represents a 5,65% increase compared to the previous 12 months and accounts for 16,4% of the country's total coffee exports.
Germany, with a 14,3% share, acquired 6,526 million bags (+0,25%) and ranked second. Next came Italy, with imports of 3,554 million bags (-5,96%); Belgium, with 3,088 million bags (-21,2%); and Japan, with 2,293 million bags (-7,38%).

Next, with 6,572 million bags shipped abroad, is the canephora species (conilon + robusta), despite registering a 20,3% decline compared to the 2023/24 season. This type of product accounted for 14,4% of total exports.
The soluble coffee segments, with 4,152 million bags – an increase of 12,6% and 9,1% of the total –, and the roasted and roasted and ground product, with 56.862 bags (+21,3% and 0,1% of representation), complete the list.
Coffees certified for sustainable practices or superior quality accounted for 19,5% of total Brazilian exports in the 2024/25 crop year, with 8,907 million bags shipped abroad. This volume is 1,2% higher than the cumulative total from July 2023 to June of last year.
At an average price of US$369,56 per bag, foreign exchange revenue from shipments of the differentiated product was US$3,292 billion, representing 22,4% of the total revenue from all shipments in the recently concluded coffee cycle. Compared to the 12 months of the 2023/24 season, the figure is 63,2% higher.
The United States led the ranking of the main destinations for premium coffees, purchasing 1,744 million bags, equivalent to 19,6% of total premium coffee exports. Rounding out the top five were Germany, with 5 million bags and a 1,477% share; Belgium, with 16,6 bags (813.132%); the Netherlands, with 9,1 bags (593.389%); and Italy, with 6,7 bags (509.991%).
