Research supports the first Geographical Indication of camphor coffee in the world
The valorization of the Amazonian terroir for fine coffees could represent a new phase for coffee growing in the region
Vorax Biofertilizer, the first biofertilizer registered in Brazil, represented the country during the fourth edition of the World Biostimulants Congress, which took place from November 18th to 21st, 2019 in Barcelona, Spain. This was another important step towards the internationalization of the product from Microquimica Tradecorp, an arm of the Spanish company in the Brazilian market.
According to Camila Levy, Research and Development Manager at Tradecorp Internacional, by participating in the Congress, it was possible to start communicating with the foreign market about the main differences of Vorax Biofertilizante and all the technology behind its development. “We are very excited, as this is our first product based on Biological Fermentation and, from it, we want to launch a new brand and new positioning within the family of biostimulants that we already have at Tradecorp”, she says.
In this scenario, expectations for the entry of Vorax Biofertilizante into the foreign market are very positive. Today, it is estimated that the biostimulants market is worth around US$3 billion a year, with Europe accounting for the largest share, mainly Spain, Italy and France. In North America, the market is dominated by the United States and, in South America, Brazil stands out. China and India are assessed as having strong potential in the medium term. “We have the technology, we have the know-how and a product with above average performance, therefore a combination with great potential for success. Vorax’s international expansion Biofertilizer is based, among other aspects, on our strategy and development of precision biostimulants. The physiology of the plant and the mode of action of Vorax through scientific studies of metabolomics and transcriptome are our main basis for innovation”, adds Camila.
The new studies, which are also guiding the product's internationalization process, are being conducted so that more discoveries about its use can be realized. At the State University of Campinas, UNICAMP, there is research into the product's action based on metabolomic studies. While the University of Milan is working on its effect on gene expression, transcriptome. In parallel, an extensive field study is carried out with the main crops, including: cucumber, table grapes, wine grapes, corn, potatoes, olive trees, raspberries, beets, lettuce, pears, rice and wheat, which guarantee the company a solid knowledge of the product's effectiveness in different climatic and growing conditions.
More than 300 different organic compounds have already been identified from the microbiological fermentation of Vorax Biofertilizante. The product activates primary metabolism, activating metabolic pathways related to sprouting and vegetative development. The next step will be registration in the main markets in which Tradecorp is present.
