From January to November 2024, Brazilian agribusiness exports totaled US$ 152,63 billion, representing 48,9% of total Brazilian exports in the period. This was the second best performance ever recorded in the historical series. The 5,2% reduction in the international price index was partially offset by the 5,2% increase in the volume exported.

The main sectors responsible for this performance were the soy complex (US$ 52,19 billion), meats (US$ 23,93 billion) and the sugar-alcohol complex (US$ 18,27 billion), which together accounted for more than 60% of total exports. Despite a reduction of 18,7%, the soy complex maintained its prominent position, while meats and sugar registered significant growth, driven by record shipments and market diversification.

Among the exported products, instant coffee deserves to be highlighted, with a cumulative US$ 792 million in the period. Another product that attracted attention was orange essential oil, with more than US$ 365 million in exports until November 2024. These results show how Brazilian agribusiness has been expanding its horizons, bringing a variety of high value-added products to the world and reaffirming its strength in increasingly diversified markets.

November results

In November 2024, agribusiness exports totaled US$ 12,66 billion, equivalent to 45,2% of Brazil's total exports in the month. Despite a 5,8% decline compared to November 2023, sectors such as meat, coffee and forestry products had significant results, partially offsetting the drop in grain sales.

The meat sector was the main highlight of the month, with an all-time record of exports for November, reaching US$ 2,45 billion (+30,2%). Beef was the main product, with US$ 1,23 billion (+29,9%), followed by chicken (US$ 876,92 million, +31,8%) and pork (US$ 289,40 million, +30,8%). This growth was driven by higher export volumes and higher average prices.

Coffee exports also reached a record high in November, with US$ 1,47 billion (+84,4%), driven by a 21,8% increase in export volume and a 51,4% increase in international prices. The European Union, the United States and Mexico were the main destinations for Brazilian green coffee. Forestry products grew 29,1%, totaling US$ 1,51 billion, led by pulp, with US$ 877,34 million in revenue.

On the other hand, the soybean complex suffered a 50,3% decline, with exports of US$ 1,86 billion, due to crop failure and reduced stocks. Corn also fell, totaling US$ 967,89 million (-41,7%) due to a 36,2% reduction in the quantity shipped.

Imports on the rise

Imports of agricultural products totaled US$1,54 billion in November 2024, an increase of 14,4% compared to the same period in the previous year. Among the main imported items are wheat (US$102,16 million; +21,2%) and salmon (US$76,05 million; +14,1%).

future expectations

According to the Secretary of Commerce and International Relations, Luís Rua, the results of the diversification of markets and products are beginning to show up in a concrete way in the trade balance. "The less traditional products in the export agenda increased by 7,2% in relation to the same period of the previous year. With the good harvest prospects for 2025, the continuation of the opening of new markets, the commercial maturation of the openings already made and the intensification of trade promotion actions with a series of new instruments, we expect even more qualitative and quantitative advances in Brazilian agribusiness exports", he highlighted.
