In September, Brazilian agribusiness exports reached a record figure, totaling US$ 14,19 billion in foreign sales, an increase of 3,6% compared to the same period in 2023. This positive trade balance result was driven, in large part, by the increase in the volume exported.
According to the Secretariat of Trade and International Relations of the Ministry of Agriculture (SCRI/Mapa), the main export sectors were the soy complex, meats, sugar and alcohol complex, forestry products, cereals, flours and preparations, and coffee. These six sectors represented 84,6% of the export agenda of Brazilian agribusiness.
Secretary Luis Rua highlighted that the record value in September is also a result of the opening of markets for Brazilian agricultural products in recent months. “When we open markets for a production chain that does not export much, we create new opportunities and, therefore, boost other markets,” said the secretary, during an interview with journalists at the MAPA headquarters.
Meat exports were particularly notable, with the beef sector recording the highest value exported by Brazil. In September 2024, foreign sales of beef reached US$ 1,25 billion, an increase of 29,2% compared to the same month of the previous year. Exports of fresh beef also reached a historic record in volume shipped, with 251,76 thousand tons (+29,1%). China remained the main buyer market for Brazilian meat.
The sugar and ethanol complex exported US$ 1,92 billion in September 2024 (+6,4%). The main product of this sector was sugar, responsible for almost 95% of the complex's external sales. In September 2024, shipments of raw cane sugar reached a record volume of 3,47 million tons (+25,9%) for the month of September.
Forest products, which include pulp, paper, and timber and timber products, also performed strongly. Pulp was the only product in the sector to reach the US$1 billion mark in sales, with US$1,04 billion exported, setting a new record for the month of September. The most industrialized markets were the main importers of pulp.
Another highlight was green coffee, with foreign sales rising from US$ 573,84 million in September 2023 to US$ 1,07 billion in September 2024 (+86,6%), a record figure for the month of September. The volume shipped was also a record, reaching 243,1 thousand tons sold.
In the last twelve months, between October 2023 and September 2024, Brazilian agribusiness exports reached US$ 166,19 billion, which represented an increase of 1,8% compared to the US$ 163,19 billion exported in the immediately previous twelve months.
