In July 2024, Brazilian agribusiness exports reached US$15,44 billion, setting a new record for the month and marking the highest value exported in the year so far. The performance reflects growth of 8,8% compared to the US$14,20 billion recorded in July 2023, consolidating the importance of the sector for the national economy.
The main sectors that contributed to this expressive result were the soybean complex, meat, sugar and alcohol complex, forestry products and coffee. Together, they represented 82,5% of agribusiness exports in July. Among the highlights are the increase in exports of soybeans to China, which continues to be the largest market for the Brazilian product, in addition to the significant growth of 19,2% in meat exports, with an emphasis on beef and pork.
Beef exports, in particular, had a great performance in July, reaching US$1,14 billion, an increase of 34,0% compared to the same month of the previous year. The volume exported was also a record, with 265,7 thousand tons, reflecting a growth of 43,9% compared to July 2023. China stood out as the main destination for Brazilian beef, accounting for more than half of the volume exported , followed by the United States, United Arab Emirates and the Philippines.
"The exceptional performance of the agribusiness trade balance in July, the best result for this month in recent years, is a clear reflection of the dedication of the entire Mapa team, under the leadership of Minister Carlos Fávaro. The strategy of opening up more and more markets and strengthening diplomatic relations have allowed products such as soy, sugar and meat to reach historic numbers. We will continue to focus on maintaining this growth trajectory, seeking new records and solidifying Brazil as a global leader in agribusiness", highlighted Roberto Perosa, Secretary of Commerce. and International Relations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.
From January to July 2024, agribusiness exports totaled US$97,80 billion, a historic record for the period. The amount represents an increase of 1% in relation to the US$ 96,87 billion exported in the first seven months of 2023. Products such as raw cane sugar and soybeans saw a significant increase in the quantities shipped, contributing to the positive result.
Considering the last 12 months, from August 2023 to July 2024, Brazilian agribusiness exports totaled US$167,41 billion, a growth of 3,2% compared to the US$162,24 billion recorded in the previous 12 months. Agribusiness continues to play an essential role in Brazil's trade balance, representing 49,3% of the total value of exports between January and July 2024.
Imports of agricultural products also registered significant growth in July 2024, rising 25,4% and reaching US$1,74 billion, compared to the US$1,39 billion imported in the same month of the previous year, setting a new record in the historical series. In addition to imports of agricultural products, there was an increase in imports of inputs for agribusiness. Fertilizers, for example, grew 22,5%, and animal nutrition, which recorded an increase of 12,4%, both considered essential for agricultural production.
