Starting at 9 am next Monday (5/8), in São Paulo (SP), the 23rd Brazilian Agribusiness Congress, organized by the Brazilian Agribusiness Association (Abag), in partnership with B3 - the Brazilian stock exchange , will guide paths towards the competitiveness of the sector, overcoming challenges related to geopolitics, the fragmentation of global trade, protectionist and precautionary ideas, and highlighting the Brazilian contribution to environmental protection and food and energy security, through sustainable production and supply of food, fiber and bioenergy.
Considered one of the most important agricultural events in the country, it will be attended by the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas, and the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite. The Congress, in a hybrid format, will receive 800 participants at the Sheraton WTC Hotel, and will be watched by more than 4 thousand people, through YouTube. The opening ceremony of the event, which will be led by Luiz Carlos Corrêa Carvalho (president of Abag) and Gilson Finkelsztain (CEO of B3), will have the participation of Pedro Lupion (president of the Parliamentary Front for Agriculture – FPA), Guilherme Piai ( secretary of Agriculture and Supply of the State of São Paulo), Sérgio Bortolozzo (president of the Brazilian Rural Society – SRB), Antonio Mello Alvarenga Neto (president of the National Agriculture Society – SNA), Sueme Mori, (director of International Relations at CNA) , and Tirso de Salles Meirelles (president of the São Paulo Agriculture and Livestock Federation – Faesp/Senar).
After the ceremony, Nelson Ferreira (senior partner and global leader of Agriculture at Mckinsey & Company) will give the inaugural lecture on the central theme of Biocompetitiveness, and will present information about unprecedented research carried out by the consultancy.
Afterwards, the Geopolitics and Sustainability panel will feature a lecture by Ambassador Roberto Azêvedo (partner at YvY Capital and consultant at Abag), who will talk about the geopolitical scenario and its effects on commercial relations and Brazilian agribusiness. Among the debaters will be Ingo Plöger (vice-president of Abag) and Ricardo Santin (president of the Brazilian Animal Protein Association - ABPA). Moderation is by journalist William Waack.
The Clube Fragmentedo panel: will Brazil be a member? will open the afternoon program of the 23rd Brazilian Agribusiness Congress. Moderated by Waack, Cristiano Noronha (vice-president of Arko Advice), Roberto Rodrigues special ambassador of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations - FAO and Advisor to Abag), Silvio Cascione (director and head of Eurasia Group in Brazil) and Sueme Mori (director of International Relations at the Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil - CNA), will discuss the effects of the process of fragmentation of geopolitics in national agriculture.
The Ney Bittencourt de Araújo Award – Agribusiness Personality 2024 will be awarded to former Minister of Agriculture Marcos Montes, and the Norman Borlaug Award – Sustainability 2024, to Esalq/USP professor Carlos Eduardo Pellegrino Cerri. The tributes will be presented by Francisco Matturro (executive director of Rede ILPF and director of Abag), and by Eduardo Brito Bastos (president of the Abag Institute of Agribusiness Studies).
The event's agenda will also include the presentation of the project: “Agro para Semper”, by Gislaine Balbinot (executive director of Abag), and Marcos Amazonas (consultant and creator of the project), followed by the Competitiveness and Opportunities round table, which will have the evaluations of federal deputy Arnaldo Jardim, rural producer and animal welfare activist Carmen Perez, professor Daniel Vargas (Fundação Getulio Vargas – São Paulo School of Economics), Fabiana Perobelli (Superintendent of Customer Relations at B3) , and João Pedro Nascimento (president of the Securities and Exchange Commission – CVM). The moderation will be by lawyer specializing in Environmental Law Samanta Pineda.
