The official position of Brazilian agribusiness for COP30 will be presented by the Brazilian Agribusiness Association (Abag), during the 24th Brazilian Agribusiness Congress (CBA), which will take place on August 11th, in a hybrid format.
The document “Agribusiness and Climate Change” was prepared based on discussions that took place at the round tables held in April, during the Forum “Towards COP30: Agribusiness and Climate Change”, which included the participation of government representatives, companies, sectoral entities, members of academia, scientists and researchers, consolidating a space for inclusive and collaborative dialogue.
Aiming to reiterate the role of agriculture as part of the solution to climate challenges and Brazil's leading role, the statement highlights how the sector can contribute to the mitigation and adaptation agenda, the paths to unlocking financing for sustainable agriculture, and the relationship between agriculture and the carbon market.
The material was prepared by renowned experts: Carlos Cerri, director of CCarbon/USP; Eduardo Bastos, Executive Director of IEAG; Marcelo Morandi, head of International Relations at Embrapa; Natascha Trennepohl, partner at Carbonn Nature; Renato Rodrigues, head of Agribusiness at TerraDot; and Rodrigo Lima, general director of Agroicone, who served as mentors for the Forum's debates.
The Brazilian Agribusiness Congress, organized by ABAG in partnership with B3, the Brazilian stock exchange, will begin with the opening lecture "Agroalliances and the Future," led by Ambassador Roberto Azevêdo, an ABAG consultant and former Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO). The event will also feature two panels: "Food, Energy, and Innovation" and "Agrobrasil with Sustainable Growth: Financing and Capital Markets," as well as the roundtable "Energy Transition." Registration is available on the official website (https://congressoabag.com.br/).
Abag will also pay tribute to Ambassador Alexandre Parola, who will receive the Ney Bittencourt de Araújo Award – Agribusiness Personality, and to former Minister of the Environment Izabella Teixeira, who will receive the Norman Borlaug Award – Sustainability.
