In the first 23 days of September, Brazil recorded 761 fires, most of them in the state of São Paulo. This number is noteworthy because it is practically the same as the number of fires recorded (794) during the entire dry season of 2025, which runs from June 1 to August 31. The data is from Climatempo.

"The fires in September were not restricted to uninhabited or remote areas, but spread to regions close to energy transmission and distribution areas, generation plants, and infrastructure projects, increasing the exposure of our clients' strategic assets," notes Ana Clara Marques, meteorologist at Climatempo.

The Climatempo Monitoring and Alert System (Smac) reported a 369,6% increase in fire alert activity compared to the combined period of June, July, and August. The meteorologist explains that this increase reinforces how the peak of the dry season heightens risks and brings fire outbreaks closer to areas that directly impact business operations.

The intensification of fires in September is directly linked to the combination of high temperatures, low humidity, and dry vegetation—typical conditions of the dry season. The situation tends to improve with the arrival of spring, although the transition season still presents irregular rainfall.
