In a demonstration of commitment and continuity, Brazil was once again recognized as a 100% quality cocoa exporting country. The approval took place during a panel held in Madagascar, West Africa, on June 13th and 14th, by the International Cocoa Council. During the event, an international recommendation was issued for Brazil to be maintained as the exclusive exporter of the product. Furthermore, the dynamism of the Brazilian industry in the sector was recognized, especially the unique characteristics of fruit from the Amazon biome.

Brazilian researchers were at the meeting to defend the quality certificate for exported cocoa. Among them, the representative of the Executive Committee of the Cocoa Farming Plan (Ceplac), of the Secretariat of Innovation, Sustainable Development, Irrigation and Cooperatives (SDI).

For the secretary of SDI, Renata Miranda, the achievement reinforces the commitment to innovation and sustainability of cocoa production. "We have great market opportunities with Brazilian cocoa - the only one that integrates the high level of quality recognized at the moment, as well as socio-environmental practices that are unique in the world", she declared.

The meeting, promoted with representatives and researchers from exporting countries in the sector, deliberated on the review of annex “C” of the 2010 International Cocoa Agreement. The council evaluated the specificities of the product from 29 countries in South America, North America , Africa, Europe, Asia and Oceania, and of these, only eight received full approval. The reports also noted the sustainable economy, economic viability and social responsibility at all stages of the production chain.
