Brazil exported 39,589 million 60 kg bags of coffee and obtained record foreign exchange revenue of US$8,117 billion, with shipments to 121 destinations, in the 2021/22 harvest, which ended last June. In relation to the previous season, the performance represented a drop of 13,3% in volume, but growth of 38,7% in value. The data is part of the monthly statistical report of the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé).
According to the entity's president, Günter Häusler, faced with a harvest with reduced supply, due to the low biennial cycle of Arabica crops, and all the existing logistical bottlenecks, with high freight costs, booking cancellations, cargo rollovers and lower availability of containers and space on vessels, the performance recorded in 2021/22 is positive.
He reinforces that, despite the drop in volume compared to the 2020/21 season, a record harvest year in Brazil, the amount shipped from July 2021 to June 2022 is within the average of the last five harvests, which is 39,480 million of bags.
“The revenue, which recorded historic value, is a reflection of the favorable exchange rate and the professionalism and exemplary work that Brazilian exporters have been performing in these times of challenges and difficulties, which has allowed Brazil to maintain its representation in global trade and take advantage of high international price levels", he comments.
The performance of the harvest was consolidated with data from June this year, when Brazil sent 3,144 million bags abroad, a volume 2,1% higher than that measured in the same month of 2021. In revenue, the increase was even more significant , 69,9%, with shipments generating US$ 733,8 million for the country.
“This positive performance in June is a consequence of the efforts of exporters' logistics teams and the modest improvement in global maritime transport, which, however, still remains well below normality and faces many challenges”, analyzes Häusler.
