Brazil exports 3,68 million bags of coffee in November

Considering the sum of green, soluble and roasted & ground coffee, Brazil exported 3,68 million bags of coffee in November. The volume was 24,4% higher than the total number of bags exported in the same month of 2017, when the country exported 2,96 million bags. Compared to October this year, when Brazil exported 3,92 million bags of coffee, there was a drop of 6,1%. The data comes from the most recent export report from Cecafé, the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council.

Foreign exchange revenue in November reached US$485 million, showing a negative variation of 1% compared to November last year and a negative variation of 5,6% compared to October this year.

Regarding the varieties shipped, Arabica coffee represented 86,5% of the total volume of coffee exported in the month, with 3,2 million bags, an increase of 18,9% compared to November 2017.

Instant coffee represented 7,1% of the total volume exported in November, with 263,7 thousand bags, registering an increase of 8,6% compared to November 2017. Robusta coffee, in turn, represented 6,3% of coffee exports in November, with 233,9 thousand bags exported, an increase of 541,1% compared to last year.

Calendar Year (January to November 2018)

“The good performance of coffee exports in November reinforces that, if there are no unforeseen events in December, we will close the calendar year recording around 35 million bags exported. This volume reflects Brazil's recovery compared to the previous year, with around 13% increase in exports. Despite having presented good volumes in November, the numbers were lower than in October due to the large number of holidays. We are very pleased with the results and everything indicates that next year will also have an exceptional performance, reflecting the global recognition of the quality and focus on sustainability of Brazilian coffee production”, declares Nelson Carvalhaes, president of Cecafé.

In the calendar year, Brazil has already registered a total of 31,4 million bags exported, a growth of 12,5% ​​compared to the same period last year. Foreign exchange revenue in this comparison showed a negative variation of 3,9%, reaching US$4,55 billion.

In the period (Jan-Nov), Robusta coffee continues to perform well, pointing to growth in exports. To date, 2,31 million bags of Robusta have been shipped, an increase of 826,6% compared to the same period last year.

main destinations

Exports remained stable in relation to the main destinations. The USA, Germany and Italy remain the three main destinations for Brazilian coffee in the 2018 calendar year. The USA imported 5,5 million bags of coffee from January to November (17,6% of the total volume exported in the period); Germany imported 4,9 million (15,7%); and Italy, 2,9 million (9,4%).

Next are: Belgium, with 6,8% (2,1 million bags); Japan, with 6,5% (2 million bags); United Kingdom, with 3,8% (1,2 million bags); Türkiye, with 2,9% (905 thousand bags); Russian Federation, with 2,6% (819 thousand bags); Canada, with 2,4% (748 thousand bags) and France, with 2,3% (737 thousand bags).

Differentiated

In relation to differentiated coffees, in the calendar year, Brazil exported 5,6 million bags, a share of 18% in the total volume of coffee shipped, and 22% of foreign exchange revenue. Compared to the same period in 2017, the volume represented a growth of 27%.

The main destinations in the period were: United States, responsible for 21% (1,18 million bags); followed by Germany, with 13,6% (769 thousand bags); Belgium, with 11,7% (658 thousand bags); Italy, with 9,1% (514 thousand bags); Japan, with 8,7% (489 thousand bags); United Kingdom, with 5,4% (302 thousand bags) and Netherlands, with 3% (169 thousand bags).

Pricing

In November, the average price of a bag of coffee was US$131,56/bag, a drop of 20,4% compared to November 2017, when the average was US$165,27/bag. However, in comparison with the month of October 2018, the average price in November registered an increase of 0,3%.

Ports

The Port of Santos continues to lead the majority of exports in the calendar year, with 81,1% (25,4 million bags), while the Port of Rio de Janeiro comes next, with 12,3% of shipments ( 3,9 million bags).
