Brazilian coffee exports totaled 2,476 million bags of 60 kg in July, the first month of the 2022/23 harvest year, a volume that implies a decline of 14,9% compared to the 2,909 million registered in the same month of 2021. In revenue, remittances they generated US$583,7 million, an increase of 40,3% in the same comparison. The data is part of the monthly statistical report of the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé).
The entity's president, Günter Häusler, assesses that July's performance reflects the continuity of logistical bottlenecks and the heated demand from the national industry for Robusta and Conilons.
“Brazilian manufacturers of roasted, ground and soluble coffee have maintained strong demand for camphores in their blends and, we cannot forget that, despite a mild improvement, obstacles in global maritime trade still persist", he comments.
Recalling that the entry of new harvests takes place, with greater weight, from the months of August onwards, he believes that a slight delay in picking work, recorded at the beginning of the current cycle's harvest, and slightly slower marketing could also have impacted performance in July.
"The harvest, today, is at a normal pace, but the delay that occurred in previous months slightly affected exports. Furthermore, the strong and recent fluctuations in prices, combined with the continuation of the war and uncertainties related to the macroeconomy globally, have reduced the dynamics of marketing, making producers analyze the best scenarios for making sales”, adds Häusler.
Regarding revenue, the president of Cecafé explains that it results from high levels of internal and external prices for the product, in addition to the favorable exchange rate. "The competence of Brazilian exporters' logistics professionals also stands out, who, faced with high freight costs and reduced availability of containers and space on ships, find ways for Brazil to continue honoring its international commitments. Last month, for example, there was another export via break bulk", he concludes.
With the exchange rate and favorable prices, foreign exchange revenue from shipments made between January and July 2022 reached a historic record of US$5,231 billion, which is equivalent to a growth of 62,4% compared to the value recorded in the same period in the previous year. last year.
