Brazilian exports of soluble coffee totaled 326.172 bags of 60 kg in May, showing significant growth of 35,18% compared to the same month in 2018 and signaling the recovery of shipments in the segment in the year, according to reports from the Brazilian Association of the Coffee Industry. Soluble Coffee (Abics).
"In volume, remittances showed excellent results in the first two months, but weak performance in the second. The month of May, however, was an excellent performance, which provided an increase of 8,42% in the accumulated result for the first five months of the year in comparison with the volume exported from January to May last year. The sum shows shipments of 1,5 million bags of soluble in these five months of 2019, which were sent to 94 countries", analyzes the entity's director of Institutional Relations, Aguinaldo Lima .
According to him, if exports continue to perform well, the volume growth target, predicted by industries at 5% for this year, will be achieved with some ease. "This means that Brazilian instant coffee has been gaining ground from competitors and meeting the demand for growth in global consumption of this drink in the world, which is close to 3% per year, with Asia being the highlight of this evolution", he explains.
The revenue obtained from shipments of soluble coffee in May, according to Abics, was US$47,6 million, representing an increase of 21,49% compared to the fifth month of 2018 and increasing the inflow of foreign exchange in Brazil with the segment's exports to US$ 220,1 million in the five months of 2019.
To enhance this performance and further consolidate Brazil's leadership in exports, which currently total more than US$600 million per year, Abics has great hope in concluding the agreement between the European Union and Mercosur, which will mean the withdrawal of 9% of tariff charged on the import of Brazilian soluble.
“This fact will provide equality in competition with competing countries that already have trade agreements with Europeans”, interprets Lima, who recalls that the European Union is the second main destination for Brazilian soluble exports.
INTERN MARKET
Another bet by Abics for the continuous evolution of the sector is growth in the domestic market, following the wave of new products that have been presented, with the most varied options to please consumers. In this sense, Abics and the Brazilian Coffee Industry Association (Abic) have worked together in a series of cooperation actions, with the partnership of the soluble coffee industries with the country's roasting industries that have their own soluble brands.
