Bosch and Basf Digital Farming signed a j (JV) 50/50 to commercialize smart agricultural solutions. The JV agreement was signed on November 10, 2020 and will be followed by the founding of a new company based in Cologne, which will be established in the first quarter of 2021. The creation of the JV is subject to approval by the authorities antitrust competent. Both parties agreed not to disclose financial details.

Bosch brings to the JV a strong capability in hardware and software as well as digital services. Basf Digital Farming with xarvio Digital Farming Solutions offers an automated tool for making specific agronomic decisions in the field, in real time, for weed management. Thus, farmers receive guidance on how to produce more sustainably.

By combining the experience of both companies, with modern hardware and software solutions, farmers will have greater ease and convenience in adopting digital solutions.

"By combining agricultural implements using high-tech sensors, intelligent software and digital products, we can make tomorrow's agriculture more efficient and, at the same time, more sustainable," said Andrew Allen, global head of the Commercial Vehicles and Off-Road from the Bosch group.

"Both companies are committed to investing time and resources in joint activities that will lead to the development of new sustainable precision technologies that improve agricultural practices and outcomes," said Vincent Gros, president of BASF's Agriculture Solutions Division.

The first two products to be launched will be a version of the system Intelligent Planting Solution (IPS), with enhanced digital intelligence for sowing and fertilizer need recommendation, and the Smart Spraying, which combines Bosch camera sensor technology and software with the xarvio platform to optimize crop resources. Both products were tested in real field conditions. These precision digital agriculture practices enable resource optimization, supporting farmers and the environment.

The technology Smart Spraying, for example, presents an optimization of up to 70% in herbicide volumes in the experimental stage. The solution is expected to be launched with a limited number of machines in 2021.
