RS 2024/25 Harvest: wet weather delays winter planting
Excessive rains affect the schedule of wheat, barley and white oat crops
The adoption of bee pollination has shown promise in increasing the productivity and quality of coffee grown by family farmers in Mato Grosso. The technique was presented during the Field Day – Family Farming Value Chains, held at the Regional Center for Research and Technology Transfer (CRPTT) of the Mato Grosso Rural Research and Extension Company (Empaer), in Tangará da Serra.
The project is the result of a partnership between Empaer and the Mato Grosso State University (Unemat), which uses native and exotic bees to boost coffee production. According to researcher João Bosco, coordinator of the experiment, producers who adopted the technique managed to harvest up to 130 bags per hectare. “It is a sustainable and profitable alternative for small producers,” he said.
The initiative also involves research into migratory beekeeping, as explained by Professor Daniele Starktonon, from Unemat. “In addition to increasing productivity, the work contributes to the conservation of bees, which are essential for ecosystems and abundant in Mato Grosso,” she concluded.
