This Tuesday afternoon (4), an important meeting took place between Feijão representatives in Brazil. The president of the Brazilian Institute of Beans & Pulses (Ibrafe), Marcelo Eduardo Lüders met with 63 producers from the states of Minas Gerais, Goiás, Paraná, Mato Grosso, Bahia and the Federal District to make essential decisions to strengthen the production chain. The meeting took place in the auditorium of the Ministry of Agriculture, in Brasília.

Among the verdicts agreed by the group, one of the most important is that Ibrafe will publish to the entire market the quotes collected from producers, brokers, cereal growers and packers. The National Price of Beans (PNF) will effectively be adopted as a national reference for the sector.

“It was concluded that current, archaic, flawed and uncredible sources of market information exist due to the absence, until recently, of credible information. Our work and responsibility is to change this scenario through reliable and comprehensive quotes, like the PNF”, stated the president of Ibrafe.

Within the Feijão page, on the Notícias Agrícolas website, the prices charged will also be automatically published as quotes are collected by Ibrafe. Public institutions will also receive information on the National Price of Beans through Ibrafe, so that they can be disseminated to the detriment of others, previously adopted.

“I hope that after all we have a better market reference and a more reliable and transparent price formation so that we can feel safe and so that the market can flow better. I support this initiative and will be united in this fight for improvements”, declared the producer from Unaí (MG), Regis Wilson, who was present at the meeting in Brasília.

Another determination of the meeting was that Ibrafe request budgets for a broad diagnosis of the sector. This study will guide the necessary steps to identify and resolve the most diverse bottlenecks that hinder the evolution of the production chain. It is also Ibrafe's responsibility to facilitate dialogue between producers, brokers, packers and cereal growers.

National Bean Council

In the morning, representatives from Ibrafe met with the presidency of the Sector Chamber. The Institute pledged its support to the National Beans Council. This council aims to strengthen the institutional representation of the sector, as well as assist in the national mobilization in favor of beans and pulses, which are increasingly gaining prominence in national and global agribusiness.
