By the end of last week, around 4% of the 297 thousand hectares cultivated in the second 2022/2023 bean harvest had already been harvested in Paraná and the expectation is that 592 thousand tons will be produced. The area for this second harvest represents a reduction of 12% compared to last year, when 338 thousand hectares were planted. However, the estimate indicates an increase of 5,5% compared to the harvest recorded in 2022.

This is one of the issues addressed by technicians from the Department of Rural Economy (Deral), the Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply (Seab), in the Agricultural Situation Bulletin, referring to the week of April 28th to May 4th. According to technicians, the climate has favored bean cultivation so far, resulting in 90% of crops in good conditions and 10% in average conditions. However, producers are concerned about the weather behavior in the coming weeks, as a large part of crops are still susceptible, especially in relation to frost.

With the entry of new production into the market, the prices received by farmers began to fall. Last week, the producer received an average of R$350,00 for a 60 kg bag of colored beans and R$260,00 for a 60 kg bag of black beans. According to Deral, in addition to the supply of the new harvest, there is still a small quantity of beans from the first harvest to be sold.

fruit growing

The Department also analyzes the production of tangerines. In 2021, Brazil harvested 1,1 million tons from 55,4 thousand hectares, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The state of São Paulo, the main supplier of the fruit to the country, contributes 30,8% of the volume of tangerines from its orchards. Paraná ranks 4th in Brazilian production and the municipality of Cerro Azul, in the Ribeira Valley, is the main national supplier of the fruit, accounting for 9,2% of production and 8,1% of the Gross Production Value (VBP) national fruit.

corn and soy

The soybean harvest reached 99% of the area this week and can be considered closed. With the record production obtained, there are difficulties with flow and storage. The warehouses are full and there is an oversupply of soybeans on the Brazilian market. As a result, there is great pressure on prices. The commercial value of a bag of soybeans today is approximately 30% lower than in the same period last year.

The harvest of the first 2022/23 corn crop reached 90% of the estimated area of 385 thousand hectares. The remainder to be harvested is concentrated in the southern region of the state. The second harvest is 100% planted and, in general, is showing good development. In the countryside, 92% of the area is in good condition, while only 8% is in average condition.

Wheat

Wheat planting continues to progress satisfactorily in Paraná, given the good soil humidity in the State in general. However, producers are increasingly concerned about prices, which fell again in April. On average, the producer received R$79,11 per bag, a value 9% lower than in March (R$87,37) and 16% lower than in April 2022 (R$93,73).
