Bayer reaffirms its leading role in seed treatment (ST) by combining more than a century of global innovation with recent advancements in Brazil. In 2026, the company celebrates the 15th anniversary of the SeedGrowth Center, located in Paulínia (SP), a national and global benchmark in research, development, and validation of technologies for the sector.
The company's journey in this segment began in 1914 with the launch of Uspulun, considered the first chemical product developed specifically for seed treatment. In Brazil, its activity intensified from the 1950s and 1960s onwards, culminating in the introduction and consolidation of seed treatment (ST) as an essential practice for agricultural management.
Bayer played a significant role in structuring the national market, contributing to the dissemination of technologies and practices that raised the technical standard of the sector. With the evolution of the market and the strengthening of a highly qualified supply chain, the company began to focus its efforts on developing crop protection solutions.
“The history of seed treatment in Brazil is built on solid technical and operational foundations. Today, with a mature supply chain, we can focus on developing increasingly advanced solutions capable of protecting productive potential from the seed stage,” says Filipe Cerqueira, Seed Treatment Leader at Bayer Brazil.
This positioning is consolidated with the advancement of Bayer Guardian, a solution that places the seed at the center of the production strategy. The package integrates technologies aimed at protection against diseases, pests, and nematodes, adapted to the different realities of the field.
“Guardião represents the evolution of seed treatment into a complete protection system. It integrates technologies, agronomic knowledge, and consistent results, focusing on the initial establishment of the crop,” he emphasizes.
Another milestone in this journey is the SeedGrowth Center, inaugurated in 2011. The space was developed with the goal of connecting innovation and agricultural practice, working on the validation of technologies and the technical training of clients, partners, and professionals in the sector.
Over these 15 years, the facility has established itself as an international benchmark, contributing to the evolution of seed treatment as a more efficient, safe, and sustainable system. As part of this new phase, the space will now be symbolically recognized as "SeedGrowth Center: The Guardian's Home," reflecting the maturity of seed treatment as an integrated protection system from the beginning of the production cycle.
"The center symbolizes the evolution of a concept that today materializes in complete solutions for the producer," concludes Cerqueira.
With continuous investments in research and development and close collaboration with producers, Bayer reinforces its commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture, contributing to productivity gains from the very first step in cultivation: the seed.
