Rio Grande do Sul is one of the states with the highest number of Asian rust records in the 2019/20 harvest, according to monitoring by the Antirust Consortium. Losses due to the disease can reduce the grain yield of soybean crops by up to 90% if there is no adequate management. The disease may be more common in the south of the country, depending on the region's climate conditions.

Basf presents the fungicide to the market Aumenax to control diseases such as Asian soybean rust during the 21st Expodireto Cotrijal, in Não-Me-Toque (RS). The new feature will be available to farmers in the 2020/21 harvest.

"Aumenax is a tool for resistance management of diseases such as Asian rust, containing the combination of a multisite fungicide and a fungicide from the carboxamide group. The solution presents high efficiency in controlling important diseases, ensuring greater sustainability of the production system for future harvests”, says researcher Lucas Navarini.

As it is a very aggressive disease, preventive applications are recommended for efficient control. Asian rust can occur at any stage of plant development. In addition to the damage caused to the leaves, there is damage to the formation of grains and the filling of pods, with a reduction in the final weight of the grains, compromising the results of the cultivation.

"Aumenax is aimed at the first applications of fungicides in soybean crops. The technology stands out for its convenience e efficiency. It is a low-dose liquid formulation that is easy to dilute and does not cause clogging of the sprayer tips,” says Hélio Cabral, Soy Marketing Manager at Basf.

The novelty is also recommended for target spot management, more common in the Midwest. The incidence of the disease has increased in recent harvests, causing significant losses in grain yield. The target spot can cause losses of up to 40% in productivity in soybean crops if no form of control is carried out. Spots on the leaves and defoliation are the main symptoms.

Aumenax It has high performance for controlling the main soybean diseases, such as target spot and Asian rust. The formulation was developed to be a great ally in efficient crop management and to provide more practicality and convenience for the farmer.

Technology investment

Basf invests more than €900 million per year in research and development of solutions for agriculture around the world. The fungicide Aumenax It is part of Basf's robust pipeline for soybean cultivation.

“We work to offer integrated solutions that meet farmers’ needs. Providing greater productivity and profitability for the soy production system is one of our priorities. The launch of yet another tool for disease control is part of our commitment to the legacy of Brazilian agriculture”, says Eduardo Novaes, Marketing Director of the Agricultural Solutions Division at Basf.

By 2030, the company should carry out more than 30 launches in Brazil, including crop protection solutions and features of seeds, in addition to dozens of varieties of soybeans, cotton, rice and various digital tools.

Also during the event, Basf reinforces its soybean seed portfolio. The brand SoyTech presents two releases adapted to the region: the variety ST 575 IPRO, which is precocious and has an initial start, favoring the establishment of the crop, with resistance to phytophthora. The new ST 592 IPRO, also resistant to phytophthoraIt is tolerant to Asian rust, with a high production ceiling and health until the end of the cycle. “SoyTech is launching products throughout Brazil, adapted to each growing region”, explains Daniel Schardong Gobbi, Licensing Manager SoyTech from Basf.

The brand Credenz presents the variety CZ 15B70 IPRO which has wide geographic adaptation, stability of size in addition to a high production potential. “Variety is the highlight of our portfolio’s productivity. Furthermore, it has a good plant architecture, which favors disease management”, explains Filipe Romano, business manager Credenz from Basf.
