According to the president of the Goiana Agricultural Defense Agency (Agrodefesa), José Ricardo Caixeta Ramos, bananas are important on the table of the population of Goiás, which is why actions aimed at the activity in Goiás are necessary. “It is a crop that moves the economy municipalities and generates income for thousands of people, especially from family farming. The Government of Goiás, through Agrodefesa, recognizes this and has acted strongly in the prevention and control of pests in bananas, with the aim of guaranteeing the health of production. The focus is to provide quality food to the population”, he highlights.
Currently, Goiás occupies the 9th position in the national production ranking, with a share of 2,8% of national production. According to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the state produces more than 197,3 thousand tons of fruit, in an area of almost 12,9 thousand hectares and with a productivity of 15,3 kilos per hectare. Among the municipalities that stand out in cultivation are Anápolis, Uruana, Pirenópolis, Petrolina de Goiás, Itaguaru, Jaraguá, Santa Isabel, Itauçu, Buriti Alegre and São Luís de Montes Belos.
