Producers should expect good average productivity this harvest, despite climate problems in some regions
Bahian grain production in the 2022/23 cycle is expected to exceed 12 million tons – an increase of 0,4% compared to the previous cycle. The data are from the 1st Survey of the 2022/23 Harvest, published by the National Supply Company (Conab).
The highest percentage of estimated growth is in total cotton production (lint and seed), which jumps 12,5%, from 1,3 million tons in 2021/22 to 1,5 million tons in 2022/23. This projected growth is due to the improvement in productivity, as the Company does not foresee a significant increase in the planted area.
Fiber planting has not yet started, as the crop is under a sanitary vacuum regime in the far west of Bahia between September 20th and November 20th. Producers in the region, however, have been looking for ways to expand the sowing area. One of the actions is the request to bring forward the planting of soybeans, which would allow a larger window for planting second-crop crops, including cotton.
In Bahia, attention is focused on the final stage of maturation and harvesting of the 3rd corn harvest of the 2021/2022 cycle. The scenario is optimistic, with good productivity expected and an increase in the price of the product.
