Fruits harvested during autumn have lower prices this month, according to an analysis carried out by the Paraná Supply Centers (Ceasa). This finding is in the Agricultural Situation Bulletin, prepared by experts from the Department of Rural Economy (Deral), for the week of May 5th to 11th.

Among the main fruits of the season, persimmon, kiwi and tangerine stand out. Persimmon, which was sold in March for R$3,85 per kilo, now shows a reduction of 29,4%, costing R$2,72. Kiwi fruit fell by 6,1%: in April, a kilo was sold for R$12,09, while in May the value fell to R$11,35. As for tangerines, the price decreased from R$3,85 in March to R$2,71, representing a reduction of 29,6%.

"Therefore, consumers should choose seasonal fruits in their diet, as they will have a fresh, recently harvested product with the best organoleptic qualities, in addition to spending less, which also contributes to financial health", suggests Paulo Andrade, agricultural engineer at Deral.

soy and corn

The harvesting work for the 2022/23 soybean harvest is completed in Paraná, while the harvest of the first corn harvest reached 93% of the area. The expectation is that favorable weather conditions will allow completion in the coming days.

The second corn harvest is showing good development, with 92% of the planted area in favorable condition and the remainder in average condition. In terms of prices, both soybeans and corn show a significant drop. The value of soybeans is R$125,00 per 60-kilo bag, a 30% reduction compared to May 2022 (R$178,00), while corn is being sold for R$51,00, representing a reduction of 36% compared to the same period last year (R$80,00).

Wheat and beans

The bulletin also records that flour prices fell in the first four months on the wholesale market. Special flour weighing 25 kilos had an average price of R$90,07 in April, a value 4% lower than that observed in December, although still 4% higher than that recorded in April 2022.

The prices received by bean producers also fell. The average between May 1st and 5th was R$335,00 per 60-kilo bag for colored beans, representing a reduction of 4,4%. The black type dropped 6,5% to R$ 232,00 per bag.
