The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), in partnership with the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe), released a climate forecast for the upcoming autumn months. The season began today, March 20, 2025, at 06:01 am, and ends on June 20.
Autumn is considered a transitional season between the hot, humid summer and the cold, dry winter, especially in Central Brazil. During this period, rainfall is scarcer in the interior of Brazil, particularly in the semi-arid Northeast.
Significant rainfall volumes are still recorded in the northern portion of the North and Northeast Regions, associated with tropical convective activity and the action of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). This season is also characterized by incursions of cold air masses from the south of the continent that cause a drop in air temperatures, mainly in the South Region and part of the Southeast Region.
During the season, the first occurrences of adverse phenomena, typical of autumn, are observed, such as: fog in the South, Southeast and Central-West regions; frost in the South and Southeast regions and in Mato Grosso do Sul; snow in the mountainous areas and plateaus of the South Region and cold weather in the south of the North Region and in the states of Mato Grosso do Sul and Mato Grosso and even in the south of Goiás.
