Argentina approves genetically modified soybeans with protection against nematodes

Argentina has authorized the commercialization, for all uses, of the genetically modified soybean BCS-GM151-6 × DAS-81419-2 × DAS-44406-6. This measure is outlined in Resolution 113/2026. BASF Agricultural Solutions Argentina has requested registration of the cumulative event.

The technology exhibits tolerance to HPPD enzyme-inhibiting herbicides, glyphosate, glufosinate ammonium, and 2,4-D. The material also offers protection against the soybean cyst nematode, Heterodera glycines, and some species of lepidopteran insects. The authorization covers seeds, products, by-products, and offspring obtained through crossbreeding with non-transgenic soybeans.

The National Advisory Commission on Agricultural Biotechnology concluded that there are no new or increased risks compared to other commercial soybean varieties. The body also considered the release into the agroecosystem as safe as that of conventional cultivars.

Before registering its cultivars in the National Register of Cultivars, the company must submit an Insect Resistance Management Plan. This document will need to receive a favorable opinion from the responsible agencies. The resolution also obligates the company to communicate any new scientific information that could alter the conclusions used in the approval process.
