The Systematic Survey of Agricultural Production (LSPA), released today by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), showed that the area planted with rice in Goiás is expected to grow by 23,2% in the 2024 harvest, reaching 23,5 thousand acre. As a result, grain production in the state should reach 110,8 thousand tons, an increase of 17,7% compared to the previous harvest.

“The expectation for rice production in Goiás is very positive,” said Secretary Pedro Leonardo Rezende, from the State Secretariat for Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Seapa). “We are confident that producers in Goiás will continue to invest in the crop, contributing to the increase in rice production and productivity in the state”, he concluded.

At a national level, rice production is expected to reach 10,7 million tons, an increase of 1,8% compared to the previous month's estimate and 4,1% compared to the volume produced in 2023. This increase is due to mainly due to the expansion of the planted area, which grew 6,7%, while the average yield fell 2,8%.

Goiás remains 4th in grain production

The LSPA also revealed that Goiás remains the fourth largest grain producer in the country, with a share of 10,6% in national production. Mato Grosso leads the ranking, with 29,3% of the production of cereals, legumes and oilseeds, followed by Paraná (13,3%) and Rio Grande do Sul (12,7%).
