The U.S. Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has removed the genetically modified corn MON 87429 from the regulations provided for in Part 340 of the Code of Federal Regulations. The change took effect today.

The event, developed by Monsanto (Bayer), exhibits resistance to dicamba, glufosinate, quizalofop, and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, known as 2,4-D. The material also has glyphosate resistance with specific tissue expression. This characteristic facilitates the production of hybrid corn seeds.

The agency concluded that there was no phytosanitary risk greater than that observed in conventional corn used as a comparator. The assessment considered data presented in the petition, available scientific information, plant pest risk analysis, and public comments.

APHIS received the petition in 2020. The initial public consultation remained open for 60 days and gathered 4.112 responses. In 2024, the agency published preliminary versions of the risk analysis and environmental impact study. This process received 9.600 comments on the environmental study and one response on the risk assessment.

In August 2025, APHIS concluded the preparation of the environmental impact study. The final decision maintained the phytosanitary risk analysis as the regulatory basis. The agency made the signed determination, the risk assessment, and the responses to the comments available in process APHIS-2020-0021.
