Soybean, corn and cotton producers who have stocks of the herbicide Paraquat are authorized to use the product during the 2020/2021 harvest. The release was granted by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) during a Collegiate Board Meeting, held this Wednesday (07.10), in Brasília.
According to Anvisa, the maximum period for using the herbicide follows a regional calendar (see table below).
The use of Paraquat had been banned by Anvisa as of September 22nd of this year. However, after coordination involving entities such as the Brazilian Association of Soy Producers (Aprosoja Brasil), Abrapa, Abramilho, members of the Parliamentary Front for Agriculture and the Ministry of Agriculture, the use of products already purchased by producers was permitted to avoid further damage to the sector.
