Research on agroindustry, by FGV Agro, reveals that in April, agroindustrial production registered an expansion of 12,1% compared to the same month in 2023. This was the biggest growth for the month since 2013. However, it is worth highlighting that, Contrary to what happened in March, the number of working days in April was greater in 2024 than in 2023 – this certainly contributed to the positive result of the month.

In the year to date, agro-industrial production accumulated an increase of 4,1% compared to the same period in 2023, corresponding to the best first four months for Agroindustry since 2018.

The rise in Agroindustry, at the beginning of 2024, has been derived both from the Non-Food Products segment (1,3%) and, mainly, from the Food Products and Beverages segment (6,1%). Since 2023, the Food and Beverages segment has been showing a positive performance, which continued throughout 2024. The Non-Food Products segment operated with difficulties in 2023, closing the year with a contraction (of -2,1% ), however, the beginning of the year has been more favorable to the segment, such that the only sector within this segment that is not operating in a positive field is Agricultural Inputs.

In next month's release, Agroindustry data will be released considering the first impacts of the climate tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul. Given this, it will be possible to understand how much of the growth accumulated in the first months of 2024 will have been lost with the crisis, given that the The state of Rio Grande do Sul is among the five most relevant for Brazilian Agroindustry.
