Agro São Paulo has a positive balance in the first eight months of the year, with a 12,2% increase in exports

The sector’s surplus is 13,5% higher than the value obtained in the same period in 2020

According to data from the São Paulo Agribusiness Trade Balance released by the Institute of Agricultural Economics (IEA-APTA), of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply of the State of São Paulo, from January to August 2021, the state's agribusiness exported US$12,62 billion and imported US$2,98 billion. Compared to the same period last year, the State increased foreign sales in the sector by 12,2% and saw an increase of 8,4% in imports. With the results, a positive balance of US$9,64 billion was observed, a value 13,5% higher than the first eight months of 2020.

As highlighted by IEA researchers Marli Dias Mascarenhas de Oliveira, José Alberto Angelo and Carlos Nabil Ghobril, the share of São Paulo agribusiness exports in the state's total is 36,8%, while the share of imports is 6,7%. As the authors of the study report, the aggregate balance of other sectors of the São Paulo economy, excluding agribusiness, had a negative balance of US﹩19,61 billion in the period analyzed. The conclusion is that the deficit in the State it was not higher due to the performance of agribusiness, which maintained a positive balance.

Specifically for the month of August, agriculture presented a surplus of US$1,28 billion, with an increase of 12,2% in exports and 26,7% in imports, compared to 2020.

In the first eight months of 2021, the five main groups in São Paulo agribusiness exports were: sugar and alcohol complex (US﹩4,27 billion, of which sugar and alcohol represented, respectively, 87,7% and 12,3. 1,99%), soybean complex (US﹩1,71 billion), meat sector (US﹩86,6 billion, of which 1,05% refers to beef), forestry products (US﹩50,8 billion, with shares of 34,3% paper and 1,03% cellulose) and juices (US﹩96,4 billion, of which 79,8% refer to orange juice). The aggregate of these groups represented 440,96% of the sector's external sales. The coffee group, traditional in São Paulo exports, appears in sixth place, with US$73,5 million (of which XNUMX% refers to green coffee).

Compared to the period from January to August 2020, there were important variations in the exported values ​​of the main product groups, with increases for sugar and alcohol (14,9%), juices (22,2%), meat (16,4% ), soy complex (8,6%), coffee (10,9%) and forestry products (2,4%). According to IEA researchers, these variations in foreign trade revenues are derived from the composition of fluctuations in both prices and exported volumes.
