Agriculture in Minas Gerais grows 13% and reaches new markets.

Exports from Minas Gerais' agribusiness sector reached US$16,4 billion in the period from January to October 2025, representing a 13% increase compared to the same period last year. Coffee remains the cornerstone of the production chains that export the most, followed by the soybean and sugar-alcohol complex, meats, and forestry products. Other segments, such as processed dairy products and prepared foods, also expanded the state's export base.

The volume shipped totaled 14 million tons, a 6,5% reduction compared to the months of January to October of the previous year. Minas Gerais is the third largest exporter of agricultural products, behind only Mato Grosso and São Paulo, and accounts for almost 13% of the national agricultural revenue. In total, 633 different agricultural products from Minas Gerais were sent to 175 countries.

Monthly result

When analyzed separately, the month of October reached US$1,8 billion and a volume of 1,2 million tons, reinforcing the trend observed in the year-to-date figures of greater diversification, increased competitiveness, and stability in export flows, despite fluctuations in specific markets. This performance stood out as the best October ever recorded in Minas Gerais' historical series.

The rise in commodity prices remains one of the main reasons for the strong export performance. Furthermore, agricultural products from Minas Gerais are expanding their presence in new markets, contributing to these results.

According to Manoela Teixeira, technical advisor at the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Seapa), there has been consistent expansion in practically all major markets, especially in Europe, Asia, South America and the Middle East. "Even with reduced purchases of some products by the United States, Minas Gerais' agricultural sector demonstrated a capacity for rapid reaction, redirecting shipments to new markets," she assesses.

During this period, 15 new countries began importing agricultural products from Minas Gerais, including Bosnia, Malta, Tonga, Mongolia, and Botswana, marking the greatest diversification of destinations in the historical series. "This expansion of the customer base is fundamental to reducing the risks associated with geographic concentration," adds technical advisor Manoela Teixeira.

Coffee

Minas Gerais alone accounts for approximately 70% of Brazilian coffee exports, confirming its absolute leadership. The flagship of the export agenda has maintained high prices since last year, due to low supply in the international market and increased global consumption.

The value recorded from Minas Gerais' coffee exports represented just over half of the state's agricultural revenue, reaching US$ 8,9 billion and 22 million bags.

Soybean

The soybean complex (grains, oil, and meal) recorded US$2,8 billion with shipments of nearly 7 million tons, representing an approximate decrease of 13% and 4%, respectively.

Sugar and alcohol producer

The volume reached 3,9 million tons, totaling US$1,7 billion, with a 19,8% drop in revenue and a 10,9% decrease in the quantity shipped. 

Forest Products

Forest products (pulp, wood and paper) reached approximately US$814 million (-13,8%). The volume shipped was 1,4 million tons (-0,8%).
