Agriculture should offer the largest share of contribution to the growth of the Gross Value of Agricultural Production (VBP) of Goiás in 2022. New estimate released by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) points out that the total VBP of the State should reach R$112 billion this year, growth of 5,6% compared to last year. With the result, Goiás is in fifth place in the ranking, which includes the States and the Federal District, with a share of 9% in the total Brazilian VBP. In the last round of publication of the indicator by Mapa, in May, the total VBP in Goiás was projected at R$111,8 billion.
Alone, agriculture should account for a share of R$80,2 billion of the State's total VBP. Growth compared to the previous year is estimated at 12,3%, almost double the segment's expansion rate nationally, which is 6,5%. The main highlight of Goiás' agricultural VBP is soybeans, with R$42,9 billion (+13,5%). Corn should reach R$15,4 billion (+1,3%). Sugarcane, R$12,4 billion (+11,1%). Tomato has an estimated VBP of R$4,9 billion (+41%) and cotton, at R$785,3 million (+30,1%). Among the highest percentages of increase, it is also worth mentioning potatoes, with 127%, reaching R$520,3 million.
“Of the 19 items researched by the Ministry of Agriculture, Goiás appears among the ten largest VBPs in 17 of them. To cite some examples, according to projections, this year we will have the highest VBP in the country in tomatoes, the second highest in soybeans and the third highest in cattle, sugarcane, beans and cotton”, states the Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Tiago Mendonça. “These data only reinforce the relevance of Goiás production for the performance of the sector as a whole and the attention that the State, as determined by Governor Ronaldo Caiado, has given to the agricultural sector. These are public policies that directly impact the countryside, enabling gains from small to large producers”, he highlights.
The projection for the VBP of livestock farming in Goiás is R$31,8 billion, a decrease of 8,2% compared to the previous year. Cattle account for the largest portion of the segment's Gross Production Value, with R$16,8 billion (-4,3%); followed by chickens, R$7,9 billion (-10,7%); milk, R$4,9 billion (-15,8%); pigs, R$1,1 billion (-13,4%); and eggs, R$1,0 billion (-4,9%). The VBP of national livestock farming is also estimated to fall (-6,4%) and should remain at R$362,6 billion. Still according to the Map, Goiás should account for 8,8% of the VBP of national livestock farming.
The VBP shows the evolution of crop and livestock performance throughout the year and corresponds to the gross revenue within the establishment. It is calculated based on the production of agricultural crops and livestock, and the prices received by producers in the country's main markets, for the most prominent Brazilian agricultural products. The real value of production, discounted for inflation, is obtained by the General Price Index – Internal Availability (IGP-DI) of Fundação Getúlio Vargas. The periodicity is monthly.
