In the forest products segment, cellulose accounted for the majority of sales on the international market, 98% of shipments, and has been experiencing a scenario of high demand, driven especially by Chinese purchases.

In the context of exports of this product, Minas Gerais is the fourth largest supplier state in Brazil, generating revenue of US$664 million and a volume of 982 thousand tons. This is the best performance since the beginning of the historical record in 1997”, comments the technical advisor of the State Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Seapa), Manoela Teixeira.

Retraction

Minas Gerais' agribusiness revenue of US$8,2 billion from exports, between January and July, fell by 9,7% compared to the same period in 2022. The retraction is explained by the 17,4% drop in the average price total ton of commodities on the world market. The products that recorded the greatest reduction in value were coffee, soy complex and meat.

“The decrease in the amount of transactions per ton is linked, comprehensively, to reorganizations in the international commodities market. Specifically in Minas Gerais, the performance of foreign sales in the coffee sector has an impact on the entire set of items sold, due to its considerable importance. At this moment, given the retraction in coffee sales, this influence is even more striking”, explains Manoela.
