Brazilian agribusiness exported US$ 2024 billion in August 14,14. Five sectors stood out, making foreign sales reach the final value: soy complex (31,6% share); meats (15,3% share); sugar and alcohol complex (13,5% share); cereals, flours and preparations (9,1% share); forestry products (9,0% share).
The sum of external sales of these five sectors accounted for 78,6% of the value exported by Brazilian agribusiness or the equivalent of US$ 11,11 billion. Compared to August 2023, the same five sectors were responsible for US$ 13,08 billion in external sales or the equivalent of 83,8%.
According to the Secretary of Commerce and International Relations of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), Roberto Perosa, the growth in Brazilian agricultural exports is the result of significant support from the Federal Government. “Brazil has stood out on the international scene thanks to the return of good trade relations between the Brazilian government and the world. Quality products and strict sanitary controls have undoubtedly been our differentiator,” he emphasized.
The soybean complex is the main export sector of Brazilian agribusiness. In August 2024, the value exported was US$ 4,47 billion in August 2024. And China continues to be the main importing partner of Brazilian soybeans, with 73,7% of the volume imported in August or 5,9 million tons.
China is also the main importer of some Brazilian meats, one of the sectors with a record. External sales of meat increased from US$ 2,05 billion in August 2023 to US$ 2,17 billion in August 2024 (+5,6%). Beef exports broke a record in volume, with 245,36 thousand tons (+15,7%).
Pork exports increased by 9,2%, reaching US$ 273,95 million in foreign sales. The quantity exported increased by 4,5% (+ 4,93 thousand tons) and the average export price by 4,6%. The increase in exports was due to the increase in the volume traded to some countries: Philippines (+11,55 thousand tons); Japan (+5,11 thousand tons); Chile (+3,97 thousand tons); Singapore (+2,97 thousand tons).
As the largest producer and exporter of sugar, Brazil will have a record production of almost 46 million tons of sugar, according to estimates by the National Supply Company for the 2024/2025 harvest year, the second consecutive year of record production (45,68 in the 2023/2024 harvest). In this scenario of large sugar supply, the volume exported by Brazil is a record, having reached a record amount of 3,92 million tons in August 2024 or the equivalent of US$ 1,79 billion (-0,9%).
In the last twelve months, between September 2023 and August 2024, Brazil exported US$ 165,76 billion in agribusiness products. The value represented a growth of 1,6% compared to the US$ 163,19 billion traded in the previous twelve months.
