Agro Valley, the agribusiness innovation governance body in Londrina, released a recent study with data from the region's agribusiness sector. The study methodology involved 4 microregions: Porecatu, Apucarana, Londrina and Assaí, from the North Central and North Pioneiro regions, totaling 31 municipalities and 16 CNAEs (National Classification of Economic Activities) of activities associated with agribusiness.
The research was conducted by professor Marcos Rambalducci (pictured above, from the Federal Technological University of Paraná (UTFPR), who leads the Agro Valley Data Working Group. The data collection was carried out by the company LinkData.
“We organized the data and are now working on a study to be published that will provide methodological guidance to other regions that want to measure the impacts of the agribusiness sector in their regions,” explains Rambalducci.
The agribusiness sector in the Agro Valley region has 35.015 formal workers, which represents 9,72% compared to other regions of Paraná. In total, there are around 4 active establishments. Between 2022 and 2023, the region generated more than 8,6 jobs. The largest increase came from the city of Rolândia, with 3323 jobs in poultry slaughtering.
The Agro Valley region exported US$ 2,4 billion in 2023. This figure is 61% higher than the exports in 2022. In percentage terms, Agro Valley's exports represent 10% of all of Paraná. The main markets are China, Iran, the United States, Algeria and South Korea.
Among the most exported items are: soybeans (R$ 1,16 billion), sugar (R$ 982 million), corn (R$ 587 million), coffee extracts, essences and concentrates (R$ 356 million) and leather prepared after tanning (R$ 255 million).
The sector also shows its strength in tax collection. In 2023 alone, there were R$880 million in federal taxes and an average annual total of R$300 million in ICMS.
