New data from Serasa Experian reveals that the third quarter of this year registered the highest number of requests for judicial reorganization since 2021. There were 628 requests, compared to 254 registered in the same period of 2024. This scenario reflects the worsening credit environment in the sector – representing rural producers as individuals and legal entities, as well as companies related to agribusiness.
“The increase in bankruptcy filings highlights a more challenging period for the ability of rural producers and companies in the sector to maintain their cash flow and payments, especially for those who have been rolling over debt for several years without making the necessary adjustments to reduce costs, review assets, and end poorly planned expansions,” analyzes Marcelo Pimenta, head of agribusiness at Serasa Experian. “In this scenario, it is important for creditors to reinforce the relevance of data-driven credit analysis. The more precise and in-depth the risk assessment, the greater the market's ability to anticipate difficulties, adjust limits, and prevent situations of financial stress from escalating. Credit intelligence allows for predictable operation, reducing default rates and contributing to the sustainability of the entire production chain,” adds the head of agribusiness at the datatech company.
According to previously unreleased data developed by the datatech company, the state-level analysis showed that Mato Grosso registered the highest number of requests. Furthermore, the regions of Goiás and Paraná also stood out in the search for this financial resource.
Brazilian farmers operating as individuals filed 255 requests for judicial reorganization in the third quarter of 2025. This represents an increase compared to the same period in 2024, when that quarter had accumulated 106 requests.
Most of the requests were made by rural producers who were tenants or from economic and family groups (84). Next, large landowners had 69 requests, followed by small landowners, with 58, and medium-sized landowners, who accounted for 44 requests for the resource.
The index shows that rural producers with a legal entity profile accumulated 242 requests for judicial reorganization in the third quarter of 2025. Compared to the same period of the previous year, an expansion can be identified.
According to the data, in this category, the largest number of requests was made by rural producers who work with soybean cultivation (156). In addition, those who raise cattle also stood out, with 45 requests for Judicial Reorganization.
Companies linked to agribusiness, that is, those whose operations are connected to the sector, made more than 130 requests during the third quarter of this year. Compared to the same period in 2024, the index also showed expansion, with 56 requests.
In this analysis, the segment that most frequently sought judicial reorganization was "Wholesale trade of primary agricultural products" with 31 requests. Following that, among those with the most registrations, was the "Processing industry of agricultural derivatives (soybean oil and meal, sugar, ethanol, dairy products, etc.)," which totaled 27 requests, and the "Primary transformation agro-industry," with 25 requests.
