On the 12th, 13th, 19th and 20th of April, Embrapa Clima Temperado (Pelotas, RS) promotes the 9th National Strawberry Symposium, one of the main technical-scientific meetings in this production chain. The event is free and online and will be held by Embrapa channel on YouTube. Registrations can be made using this link or event website.
In this edition, technological advances for sustainable and responsible fruit cultivation will be discussed. Seven panels include topics such as integrated pest management, genetic improvement, seedling production, organic production, Integrated Strawberry Production (PIMo), sustainable production and market systems. The event will also feature reports on experiences from producers.
The Symposium is also divided into themes per day. In the first, the focus is on opportunities and challenges for the production chain. In the second, seedling production and genetic improvement are highlighted. Next, participants address Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) for the crop. Finally, on the last day, lectures on innovative production systems close the event.
The Symposium is open to the public and lasts 12 hours. But only those who register in advance and obtain at least 75% attendance during the broadcasts are entitled to certification. The target audience is made up of rural producers, students, extension workers, teachers, researchers, farmers, technicians from the private and public sector and representatives of the production chain.
The National Strawberry Symposium was held for the first time in 1999, by the Agricultural Research Company of Minas Gerais (Epamig), in Pouso Alegre/MG.
