The 8th Harvest and Grape Festival arrives in the region of Pelotas, RS

This Saturday (27/01), the rural and urban public will have a great movement around grape cultivation, it is the opening of the 8th Harvestin the municipality and region, which is estimated to offer a production of around 650 tons of fruit for the 2018 harvest. The event will be held on the property of Dirceu Kurz, in Colônia Santa Helena, 8th district of the city. The difference in this edition, with the same principle adopted in the openings of the strawberry and peach harvests, the partner institutions will provide a fixed sales stand for the product from this Friday (26/01), in Largo do Mercado Público, as well as, traveling fairs will be held throughout the next week - from 28/01 to 04/02 - in the neighborhoods with the presentation of the main grape varieties.

    Currently, the Pelotas region has 102 producers of the crop, 36 more specialized families, in a total of 42 hectares of vineyards. In addition to fresh grapes, juices and wines are produced. The expectation is to sell 300 to 500 kilos per day at all points where the product is available during the opening of the Grape Harvest and Festival. A kilo of grapes costs R$4,00 and the varieties produced are BRS Niágara Rosada, Bordô and BRS Isabel Precoce.

    The program starts at 14pm, with a technical space and grape showcase. At 14:30 pm, the cultural program begins and the official opening will be at 16 pm, with the presence of municipal authorities, followed by the harvesting of the first bunches of the 2018 harvest and tasting. Activities end at 18pm.        

          A 8th Opening of the Grape Harvest is a partnership between Pelotas City Hall, Embrapa, Emater-RS/Ascar, Federal University of Pelotas and the Rural Workers Union.
