The “Spraying Adjuvants” Program already has eight formal consultations from manufacturers to submit agricultural adjuvants to analyzes and certifications on the functionality of these products. Announced two weeks ago, the initiative will be put into practice in the laboratories of the Engineering and Automation Center (CEA), of the Agronomic Institute (IAC). The body, part of the São Paulo Department of Agriculture and Supply, is located in the city of Jundiaí and conducts ‘Spraying Adjuvants’ in partnership with the private sector.

Program coordinator, scientific researcher Hamilton Ramos points out that the functionality analyzes applied to inputs will meet an agribusiness requirement, seeking to prove the agronomic effectiveness of brands of agricultural adjuvants sold in the country.

According to Ramos, adjuvants are products added to agricultural pesticide syrup. Technically, he explains, the inputs help in the effectiveness of spraying and phytosanitary control, as they have spreading, humectant or penetrating effects, among others. “Associating an adjuvant with dubious functionality with a good quality agricultural pesticide could result in a loss of investment in the control of pests, diseases and weeds.”

Ramos reveals that the Spray Adjuvants program recently signed an agreement with one of the largest agricultural cooperatives in Brazil. According to the agreement, this company, whose name will be kept confidential until the official announcement of the partnership, will purchase adjuvants only from approved suppliers with reports from the CEA-IAC program.

Also according to Ramos, agricultural adjuvants manufactured in Brazil are not registered with the Ministry of Agriculture. The products, he says, are not subject to strict regulatory requirements like agricultural pesticides. “Hence, above all, the relevance of the market pursuing mechanisms to prove the functionality of brands currently used in the field.”
