Coffee plants go through different phenological phases during their development cycle. Still, each stage responds differently to meteorological conditions, as the vegetative and reproductive phases of the phenological cycle take two years to complete. Therefore, the success of production is associated with the combination of meteorological conditions occurring during the period and the management conditions adopted by the producer.

During the 5th Coffee and Climate Forum, the agronomist from the Cooxupé Geoprocessing Department, Guilherme Vinícius Teixeira, will discuss weather conditions and their consequences in the productive regions in which the cooperative operates.

The Forum, promoted by Cooxupé, will take place next Thursday, July 27th, from 14pm to 17pm, at the cooperative's headquarters, in Guaxupé (MG). In addition, it will be broadcast live online via Hub do Café and Cooxupé's YouTube channel.

Lecture by Guilherme Vinícius Teixeira

The agronomist will present the weather conditions that have occurred since August 2021 and the possible influences on each stage of coffee tree development.

“We will take into account the monitoring of rainfall and temperature, in addition to monitoring water storage in the soil, water deficit and radiation, with the aim of showing the behavior of the coffee tree in the face of meteorological conditions. And, at the same time, we will provide technicians with data that allows them to interpret the influences of meteorological conditions on the occurrence of stress on the plant and on the management of pests and diseases”, he details.

According to the engineer, the weather conditions recorded from August 2021 to June 2023 had a significant impact on projections for the current coffee harvest. Therefore, he advises that it is very important that cooperative coffee growers monitor the meteorological conditions that occur during the phenological phases of the coffee plant, in order to monitor the vegetative and reproductive development so as not to have unfavorable surprises.
