​50th Brazilian Phytopathology Congress will take place in Uberlândia, MG

The 50th Brazilian Congress of Phytopathology will take place in the city of Uberlândia (MG) on the 20th to 23rd of August 2016. In the last plenary of the 49th Brazilian Congress of Phytopathology, in the city of Maceió, Alagoas, the city of Uberlândia and the Federal University of Uberlândia to host the event. In mid-March and April 2016, the Organizing Committee began preparations to be able to hold an event worthy of the Brazilian Society of Phytopathology – SBF. This is the Golden Jubilee of the Brazilian Phytopathology Congresses.

The goal is to discuss the role that phytopathologists can play with their skills in solving the problems that national agriculture currently faces. With the theme "From management to genome editing", the event aims to review relevant facts that contributed to the evolution of phytopathology in Brazil and review new discoveries and recent and fascinating advances in plant pathology. The Congress will be an excellent opportunity to encourage the community to adopt interdisciplinary approaches in order to arrive at new answers to pressing challenges such as global population growth, climate change and the resistance of plant pathogens to fungicides.

For the first time, a joint session will be held between the Brazilian and American Phytopathology Society (APS), a milestone in the Congresses that will expand and strengthen mutual cooperation between the two societies. The event is expected to welcome more than twelve hundred researchers, as well as senior and junior researchers, who are at the forefront of the field of plant pathology.
