The industrial quality of wheat, a topic that will be presented by the researcher, Eliana Maria Guarienti, from Embrapa Trigo, opens this Wednesday, August 21st, at 8:15 am, the 2nd Wheat Culture Seminar in Paraná, which will be held at Embrapa Soja, in Londrina (PR). The event is a promotion by Embrapa Soja, the Agronomic Institute of Paraná (Iapar) and the Meridional Research Support Foundation. During the event, different aspects of wheat production in Paraná will be discussed, as well as the challenges for the industry and the market. The presentation of the perspectives of wheat cultivation in Brazil will be made by researcher Gilberto Rocca da Cunha, from Embrapa Trigo.
The program will also feature a lecture on pre-harvest germination in wheat to be given by Manoel Carlos Bassoi, from Embrapa Soja. To address the management of wheat pests, the guest will be researcher Paulo Roberto Pereira, from Embrapa Florestas. The technical discussion will end with a lecture on the main viruses that attack crops, a topic that will be taught by Embrapa Trigo researcher Douglas Lau.
Wheat is one of the most relevant agricultural products for Paraná. In a survey by the National Supply Company (Conab), the State appears as the largest wheat producer in Brazil, with an area of more than 1 million hectares, in 2019. Furthermore, the projected production for this harvest is 2,7 million hectares. tons, which represents approximately 50% of national wheat production.
