There is a solution to the climate and financial uncertainties predicted for the next Brazilian grain harvest: seeking high productivity. This is what André Savino, president of Syngenta Crop Protection Brazil, stated. At One Agro 2025, an initiative by the company that aims to drive innovation and discussion of current and relevant topics for the sector, Savino and Steven Hawkins, president of Syngenta Crop Protection, highlighted the importance of biological solutions, education for the future of agriculture, and the development of innovative technologies.
“Fixed costs are established, but when you produce more, you have more profitability to pay interest on capital. The Selic rate is currently around 15%, and when you raise money on the market, it goes above 20%. To survive, the answer is production. This is one of the issues linked to innovation. Using better products and techniques is a way to face major challenges,” said Savino.
Among the lessons learned from the last cycles, such as 2023-24, the executive highlighted the keen eye on Brazilian diversity and the technologies produced in the country. “Brazilian agriculture is cutting-edge agriculture,” he stressed.
One of these technologies highlighted is biological products. For Hawkins, biotechnologies are important tools for tropical agriculture. He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to expanding its portfolio of bioinputs in Brazil and emphasized: “what was previously seen as a substitute for synthetic products is now seen as a complement,” he said. “The more tools we have, the more opportunities we offer producers to boost their production,” he concluded.
In its fifth edition, One Agro fosters discussions on innovation, environmental and financial sustainability, involving industry players, banks, researchers, cooperatives, distributors, government agencies and farmers to build a more professional and inclusive agricultural sector. The event will take place this Tuesday (10), in Campinas (SP), with two main topics: education as a driver of the agribusiness of the future, and innovation as a catalyst for the transformation of agriculture.
