PR 2025/26 Harvest: rains bring relief and challenges to the field

The return of rain between October 7th and 13th brought relief to much of Paraná's producing regions, contributing to the recovery of crops that had been suffering from water shortages. According to the Department of Rural Economy (Deral), the rainfall particularly favored the regrowth of pastures and the development of crops such as soybeans, corn, and coffee. On the other hand, excess moisture has limited the progress of bean and potato planting, in addition to compromising the wheat harvest in some areas.

Summer grains advance with increased attention to the climate

The planting of the corn Summer is practically over in much of the state, with emerged crops showing good initial development. However, technicians warn of the need for monitoring for pests such as leafhoppers and thrips. Nitrogen fertilization has been postponed in areas where the soil is still waterlogged.

Now the sowing of soybean progresses unevenly: while some regions are registering a fast pace, others are facing delays due to irregular rainfall at the beginning of the period and, more recently, the difficulty of accessing the wetter areas.

Wheat and barley face challenges in the final stretch

The crops of wheat are in the final stages of harvest, but recurring rains have harmed the quality of the grains, with reports of a drop in pH and an increase in the volume of substandard product. In barley, fruiting evolved positively, although high humidity favored the incidence of fungal diseases.

Beans and potatoes suffer from excess rain

The planting of the bean The first harvest began slowly, with delays caused by continued rainfall. Deral also reported a reduction in planted area this season, reflecting market conditions.

A potato faces similar difficulties: excess humidity has prevented the implementation of cultural treatments and delayed planting in new areas.

Coffee and sugarcane show recovery after drought

Nas coffee regions, the harvest has ended, and recent rains have stimulated intense flowering. Despite the positive signs, technicians note the need for monitoring to avoid unevenness and flower abortion in areas that have experienced dry spells.

Fruit production reacts, but supply is still limited

Production banana Prices continue to rise due to lower supply, a consequence of losses caused by previous frosts and droughts. Supply and demand are expected to balance out by 2026.

In the orchards of orange, recent rains have alleviated the low soil moisture observed at the beginning of the month, favoring the vegetative development of plants. The vineyards of grape present active sprouting, requiring extra attention to control fungal diseases.

Other crops show localized advances

O rice advances in areas managed by the pre-germinated system, but the sector is concerned about low profitability, as prices remain below production costs.

A onion shows good development in the bulb formation phase, benefiting from the rains. chamomile, in turn, has completed the harvest cycle and continues with gradual commercialization.

Deral also highlights specific advances in fields of Pinus newly transplanted, with good initial performance.

Pastures are recovering again

As pastures, which had been showing signs of water stress, are beginning to recover with the regular rainfall. This improvement should gradually reduce the need for supplemental feeding of the herd, in addition to favoring the replenishment of water in rivers and springs.
