The Department of Rural Economy (Deral) released, this Tuesday (12), the panorama of weather and cultivation conditions between August 5 and 11 in Paraná. According to the agency, the harvest of coffee and second-crop corn is practically complete, while the planting of irrigated rice and the new potato crop has already begun in some regions.

According to the survey, 89% of the area of café has already been harvested. The quality of the beverage is considered good, and the yield is within expectations, even in regions that suffered frost in June. The dry weather favored the completion of the work, although scattered rains hampered drying in some municipalities.

O corn second harvest is also in the final stretch, with 80% of the area harvested. Productivity is satisfactory in most crops, exceeding expectations in some cases, despite localized losses caused by drought and frost. There is a tendency to increase the area dedicated to summer corn, taking up space previously allocated to beans.

The harvest of potato The area is 92% complete, and soil preparation for the next harvest is underway. In some regions, planting has already begun, including outside agricultural zoning, as a strategy to capitalize on market opportunities.

O wheat is still mostly in the flowering and fruiting stages. Recent rains have improved production potential and allowed for the advancement of crop management, with rust and powdery mildew control. There was no significant damage from the most recent frosts, but isolated losses were recorded in sensitive areas.

The Deral bulletin also highlighted:

  • Irrigated rice: planting started in the pre-germinated system, with the expectation of maintaining the area even with low prices.
  • Oats: Animal feed crops have recovered from droughts after the rains; reproductive areas are still feeling the effects of frost.
  • Sugar cane: harvest progresses with good yield and quality.
  • Barley: uniform development after the rains, with preventive phytosanitary management against diseases and pests.
  • Bean: tendency to reduce the first harvest to prioritize seed production; beginning of preparation of areas for planting.
  • Fruits: Ponkan tangerine harvest continues; psyllid transmitting greening in Cerro Azul identified.
  • Vegetables: light to moderate frosts caused smaller losses than in June; producers adopted protective measures.
  • Cassava: harvesting and planting simultaneously; productivity and starch yield fell in the last harvested areas.
  • Strawberry: reduced supply in winter, with an expected improvement from October onwards.
  • Pastures: slow recovery after frost and drought; food supplementation still necessary.
  • Silages: cutting and drying of oats and ryegrass for the production of pre-dried silage in balls.

Deral emphasizes that, despite the adverse weather conditions recorded during the winter, recent rains have contributed to the recovery of several crops and the advancement of field operations.
