The rains recorded in recent days in almost all of Paraná have benefited the planting and development of wheat. The main winter crop in the state, the cereal is expected to occupy around 850 thousand hectares in this harvest, 25% less than in the previous cycle. So far, around 78% of the area has been sown.

Humidity also favors the growth of crops already planted, which have good phytosanitary control and low incidence of pests, in addition to boosting the remaining 22% still in the planting phase. The information is from the Department of Rural Economy (Deral).

Barley, which accounts for 39% of the 94,3 thousand hectares cultivated, also responds well to rainfall, both in areas undergoing vegetative development and in areas recently planted. The creation of pastures has gained momentum, with an increase in the production of green mass and improvements in animal feed.

On the other hand, the harvest of several crops has been affected. Coffee is experiencing delays, with losses in grain size and the presence of leaf miners. Productivity is still good in the main regions. Sugarcane has had occasional interruptions, but is still on schedule. The second crop of beans is experiencing loss of quality due to excess moisture, and some of the crops are desiccated and awaiting stable weather for harvest.

The second corn harvest was also interrupted. No impact on production is expected. Where the crop is still in the grain filling stage, the weather has favored good development. The occasional frosts did not cause significant losses.

Producers who invested in second-crop soybeans are facing difficulties in completing the harvest. Those who have completed harvesting the grain are selling slowly, pressured by low prices and concerns about storing corn for the next crop.

Hail damaged banana and vegetable crops in the North. In the South, occasional frosts affected leafy vegetables, but the use of protection reduced the impacts. The cassava harvest continues, with soil preparation underway. Incomplete maturation of the cassava stems has delayed the start of new planting.
