Grain production is expected to reach 251,8 million tons, presenting a positive variation of 4% in relation to the previous harvest, equivalent to an absolute increase of 9,7 million tons. The increase in the production of cotton, rice, beans and sorghum also explains this production record.

The first harvest crops responded well to the weather conditions, despite the beginning of the harvest without rain, and, in general, have a higher yield than the last harvest. Soybean crops have recovered and, with the harvest ending, productivity is estimated to be higher than that of the last harvest, when important producing states suffered from drought.

In Rio Grande do Sul, the lack of rain benefited rice crops, promoting one of the best yields in the historical series.

In recent harvests, the area cultivated with rice has been decreasing, especially in rainfed areas. Despite the reduction in recent years, the greater proportion of planting in irrigated areas, which generate greater productivity, and the continuous investment by rice farmers in technologies, have allowed production to be maintained, adjusted to national consumption.

The production expectation for this harvest is 10,57 million tons, an increase of 1,2% compared to the last harvest. National rice production has its highest concentration in the South Region, responsible for more than 80% of the national supply.

In Rio Grande do Sul, the harvest improved significantly in March, with more than half of the area harvested. The high incidence of solar radiation should favor crops sown outside the preferred period for the crop.

As it is a short-cycle crop, beans allow planting in up to three moments during the season, in the search for balance in supply. In this year's first harvest, the area is estimated at 926,5 thousand hectares, growth of 0,4% compared to the last harvest. The forecast of higher productivity should result in a production of 1,07 million tons, 8,3% higher than in the last harvest, which suffered from problems arising from adverse weather conditions and hampered production.

The area of first harvest beans has been decreasing over the last few harvests, mainly due to competition with other crops, such as soybeans and corn, and also due to the harvest time often coinciding with the rainy season, causing product quality problems.

The second harvest beans should have a planted area of 1,4 million hectares, 1,1% smaller than the area of the last harvest. Attention turns to the climatic conditions presented in the South Region, which have already harmed the productive potential of crops.
