The 12th Coffee Farming Mechanization Symposium will open, on May 16th, the technical program of Expocafé 2023. The event, which takes place on the eve of the official opening of the fair, is aimed at an audience specially registered to participate in the lectures and debates . Registrations worth R$70 for students and R$140 for other participants can be made on site, on the day of the event.

The schedule for the Symposium, which takes place on Tuesday (16) from 8am to 17pm, at the Experimental Field of the Agricultural Research Company of Minas Gerais (EPAMIG), in Três Pontas, has already been defined. “We opted for comprehensive lectures, with current issues of relevance to coffee growers, which go beyond mechanization. In this edition, we will test a more dynamic format in order to increase the space for debates and customer service”, says Expocafé's technical coordinator, César Botelho.

Speakers include researchers, university professors and consultants who will address a variety of topics. “We will start with the participation of consultant Gil Barabach (Safras & Mercado), who will deal with the topic 'Scenarios, perspectives and strategies for the coffee market in 2023'. Next, we will discuss ‘Biological balance of the miner using lacewings’ and ‘100% nutrition’. Closing the morning program, colleague Vanessa Figueiredo, who works at EPAMIG in Três Pontas, will present the results of projects to evaluate the performance of coffee cultivars for the South of Minas and Cerrado Mineiro regions, developed by EPAMIG in partnership with Embrapa, Cooxupé and the Cerrado Coffee Growers Federation”, adds César.

The second part of the event will have four more lectures: “How to prepare my farm for certification”, by Thamiris Bandoni Pereira, agronomist from the Coffee Growers Cooperative of the Três Pontas Zone (Cocatrel); “Construction of the soil profile for better production rates”, presented by Kleso Silva Franco Júnior, technical coordinator of the Emater-MG Regional Alfenas; “Mechanization for sustainable coffee farming systems (rocking and organic), taught by corporate coffee farming manager Erik Miranda Abreu. “To conclude, we will have the participation of the professor from the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA) and our partner in the creation and organization of this Symposium since the first edition, Fábio Moreira, who will talk about ‘Solutions for Mountain Coffee Farming’”, adds César Botelho.
