Family farming makes up a significant part of Brazilian agribusiness. According to the 2017 Agricultural Census, carried out by IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), around 77% of agricultural establishments are classified in the “Family Farming” category, with more than 10 million people employed.

As technology in the field evolves, demand from small and medium-sized rural producers for equipment that provides greater productivity also grows. By investing in a new machine, the farmer seeks savings. In a recent study carried out by Massey Ferguson, it was found that the brand's tractors, which are focused on small and medium producers, offer savings of 10% in fuel consumption when used. If considered in the medium and long term, it is a significant saving, given that diesel is one of the most expensive inputs in agriculture.

In addition to agricultural machinery technology, family producers usually participate in all stages of agriculture, from soil preparation to harvesting. Investing in knowledge and staff training is essential for the constant evolution and profitability of the culture. Training is an important pillar in family farming, as it is responsible for 7 out of every 10 jobs in the field, according to Conab (National Supply Company).

Various courses can be found, including EAD (Distance Learning) training, in institutions that provide free training such as Embrapa, Sebrae, Ministry of the Environment and Enagro (National School of Agricultural Management), linked to Mapa (Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply).

Access to lines of credit and financing plays a fundamental role in the development of family farming in Brazil. The Safra Plan, the main instrument in the planning of Brazilian rural producers of all sizes, guarantees farmers opportunities to invest in their businesses and greater security.

Other programs such as Moderfrota, which promotes financing for the acquisition of agricultural equipment, and Pronaf (National Program for Strengthening Family Agriculture) are also available to rural producers. The latter, focused on family farming, has the “More Food” category, used to purchase machines that are part of the program.

The purchasing power of technology, combined with the technical training to take advantage of the most advanced features in each piece of equipment, allows family farmers to work under favorable conditions to increase productivity and make their businesses even more profitable and competitive.
