To achieve success in agribusiness, many companies are investing in startups. These are companies that have attracted a growing number of investment funds, large technology companies and entrepreneurs from different countries. According to the Brazilian Agribusiness Association (Abag), agritechs already form a group of around 300 companies in the country, which invest around R$100 million per year and are capable of offering producers any type of service. It is a great opportunity for producers to innovate their business and be more profitable. To give you an idea, only 14% of rural properties have connectivity.

There are consultancies prepared to help producers have greater control over their property and make their revenue double, triple and their production have the same evolution. Entrepreneurs often end up losing a lot of money because they don't know or are afraid to know the alternatives that could be the solution to the success of their business.

Factors that lead to the development of Agritechs:

Population growth (it is estimated that by 2050 there will be an increase in the world population's demand for food - reaching almost 10 billion inhabitants in the world according to the UN).

environmental cost

Changes in diet

Decrease in sensor costs

In 2014, the United States technology sector, known as Agtech, received investments of around US$2,36 billion, involving 264 agreements. This value is higher than that of well-known markets, such as Fintechs (technology for the financial system), with US$2,1 billion, and clean technology, of US$ 2 billion. In Brazil, in recent years, some startups promising companies reached the market and began to stand out inside and outside the country. One of the main cases is that of a startup Brazilian company that was considered the 33rd most innovative company in the world by the American magazine Fast Company. The company sells insects that fight pests in large plantations, such as sugarcane and soybeans, and was created in the Esalq laboratories, at the University of São Paulo (USP), in Piracicaba.

Main technology trends in agribusiness

Sensor installation

Producers are increasingly linked to technology, mainly due to its practicality and obtaining data in minutes and in the palm of their hand. There are several properties that have adopted the installation of sensors in the field to provide important information about the plantation, soil and other elements. These sensors are capable of carrying out commands automatically, performing tasks remotely and in real time. Technology has brought practicality and agility to processes that were previously completely bureaucratic and time-consuming.

management software

They are mainly used to obtain production costs. They make daily activities and business management much easier. They help you make decisions easily and assertively, making the business more profitable and controlled.

Vertical agriculture

Brazil is a great candidate to be the breadbasket of the world. According to the UN - United Nations - the world could reach almost 10 billion inhabitants by 2050. That's a lot of people to feed. Given this scenario, producers are looking at all types of technology to help advance production. This type of vertical agriculture allows environmental control where factors can be monitored. These installations normally use artificial, environmental control (humidity, temperature and gases), in addition to fertigation.
