Agriculture imposes on those who have decided to dedicate their lives to the art of producing food, careful planning and execution of several complex and important decisions, with the aim of providing farming with the expression of its maximum productive potential.

The seed, in this scenario, undoubtedly assumes the most important role, and becomes the cradle of the most advanced technology, because it provides part of the solutions necessary to overcome the challenges existing in the production system and also begins to demand from the user much more ability to connect the correct seed according to the requirements of each production environment.

In order for the seed to consistently deliver better productivity results with sustainability, encouraging profitability, massive investments are made in research and development, genetic improvement, biotechnology, as well as management techniques. And, only through the sum of all these factors, is it possible to continue moving towards productivity and management solutions previously unimagined.

A major technological revolution was the availability of genetically modified seeds that, through genetic engineering, allow plants to be protected against certain insect pests, or even have the characteristic of tolerating the application of a certain herbicide. These are examples of how technology has contributed to the evolution of the seed to provide new management solutions integrated there.

Brazil and the United States, the two largest soybean producers in the world, record an incredible increase in productivity of around 42,5 and 40,0 kilos per hectare per year, respectively, coming from the genetic gain of soybeans, which occurs in function of the technological advances achieved and are reflected through the launch of soybean cultivars year after year with greater productive potential and with a perfectly symmetrical combination between genetic improvement and biotechnology, which aims to ensure the expression of all genetics, in addition to providing protection the plant.

Even so, with all the progress made, we cannot stop. We have a long way to go, whether in search of surpassing the results achieved, or to ensure that this march of exponential growth in productivity due to the technology used continues. This is the best way to move forward and ensure that evolution is constant.

For the entire society to continue benefiting from technological innovations linked to seeds, it is vitally important to consciously use the tools available, such as the use of good management practices, which includes the adoption of structured refuge in the case of planting crops with insect protection or alternative herbicides in crops tolerant to these pesticides.

Seed is synonymous with life: whether because it is a living organism, which carries its evolutionary traits in its DNA, or because it is responsible for ensuring the perpetuation of the species, or even because of its ability to multiply, because even if there is only one seed, in the The moment it is sown, it will begin a brilliant journey that will culminate in a plant full of fruits for harvest.
